Food emissions= green house gas emissions due to food production. I would recommend that you go through the link I provided under “Link to Oxford Study”. It’s a study published in the journal Science, a peer reviewed journal. It’s also one of the most comprehensive analyses regarding the effects of farming on the environment. I did not mention 73% as a precise number, please be a little more attentive while reading
Upto 73%
Depending on where you live
“For the United States, where per capita meat consumption is three times the global average, dietary change has the potential for a far greater effect on food’s different emissions, reducing them by 61 to 73%”
The data is right there. You’re simply not willing to see it. I’m not going to copy paste everything here for you to read.
Since you called my knowledge of the subject superficial, I provided you with all the research I referred to. And you call it “gish-galloping”? Also I don’t understand how it was random or out of context? I provided you with links to the environmental and health aspects of vegetarianism which you said I understood superficially.
I’ve already made my argument regarding the health aspect of it. According to the American Dietetic Association, well planned vegetarian diets are appropriate during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, adolescence and also for athletes. I’ve provided you with a link to the data as well. The Oxford study I mentioned concludes that health of vegetarians is generally good and compares favorably with that of the nonvegetarian control subjects.
Yes, I don’t consume beef...I’m a vegetarian. If you don’t, that’s cool. I guess you’re trying to imply that most Indians don’t consume beef, which is true. However, Medium is a global platform and my articles get views from different parts of the world. Also, ethics are a huge part of veganism, so resorting to an ad hominem attack by saying my views are regressive for a matured adult (by which you’re basically calling me immature) is honestly just disappointing.
I’ve already justified my stance, I don’t think I need to ask you any questions.
